FAQs

What integrative approaches are used for allergies?

In Integrative Allergy Clinic We integrate conventional medicine and functional medicine to determine the total allergen load and to get to the root cause of the allergic symptoms. Then we use a whole-person approach to restore balance in the Immune system. Since about 70 percent of the immune system is in the digestive tract we use functional gut repair protocol using diet, lifestyle, and nutritional supplements for restoring gut health. Blood testing and or skin testing are used to determine the allergic triggers and nutritional deficiency. Sublingual immunotherapy or Allergy drops is the treatment of choice for environmental allergies.

How does SLIT work?

Sublingual immunotherapy, or allergy drops, works like allergy shots by gradually building your body’s tolerance to allergens. Instead of an injection, the antigen is placed under your tongue in liquid form. This area has the highest concentration of antigen-presenting cells, called dendritic cells, which help develop allergic tolerance. By taking allergy drops daily, your body learns to tolerate allergens. We recommend three doses daily for 3-5 years, though treatment length can vary. Many feel better within a few months, but completing the full treatment is crucial for lasting results.

What is the total allergen load?

Total Load refers to the cumulative impact of various factors on a person’s health, crucial for diagnosing and treating allergies with drops. A person’s Total Allergen Load can fluctuate over time. When it exceeds the body’s capacity to adapt, sudden allergic reactions can occur, similar to an overflowing bucket causing a spill.
